In New Zealand Secretary's Day , or Administrative Professionals Day is
celebrated on 2nd May 2007, as part of The Administrative Professionals
Week.
This week was first started in 1952 to recognise the value and
importance of a secretary to a corporation or business. In recent years
the practice of using this day to thank secretary's has spread, in New
Zealand, to embrace many different office or administrative workers, and
is now used to recognise most office employees.
It is common practice for an employer to give a gift, or flowers as a
"thank you" or perhaps even take staff out for a lunch time informal
meal. The gift is traditionally not too personal or too utilitarian, but
rather a "corporate type gift" that is seen as coming from the company
as opposed to a private gift from one's superior.
Administrative Professionals week is celebrated world wide. In New
Zealand many centers have special events to mark the occasion. If you
wish to find any further information visit the AAPNZ (Association
of Administratice Professionals New Zealand Inc) website.
